Speciality Pies -
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. HOW MUCH DO THE THREE TIER WEDDING CAKE PIES COST?
A. The cost of the three pies is currently £120.00 if collected from the shop. If express delivery is required this will cost an extra £20.00 for the shipping and packaging. Please note prices may vary.
Q. CAN I HAVE MY PIE DELIVERED DIRECT TO THE WEDDING VENUE?
A. Yes. You can specify a catering establishment to take delivery of your pie as long as you take responsibility for notifying the venue and making sure someone is available to accept delivery between 8am and 5.30pm. The pies will also need taking out of the box and storing in a refrigerator below 6 degrees centigrade until needed, so you will also need to give them those instructions.
Q. DOES WILSONS PROVIDE THE STANDS FOR THE PIES?
A. No. But if you want to make the pies look like our photograph, just buy a cheap wooden rolling pin and cut it into 6 cm lengths. Then dress with vine tomatoes for that rustic look.
Q. HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL THEY CATER FOR?
A. The Wedding Cake pies weigh approx. 20 lb in total, this is enough for 80 x 4oz portions, 106 x 3oz portions or even 160 x 2oz portions. The Celebration Pies weigh approx. 7lb and will be good for 28 x 4oz portions or more if smaller portions.
Q. DO YOU DO ANY OTHER TYPE OF FILLINGS?
A. We can put eggs into one of the pies to make a gala style or we can also make a Huntsman filling with Pork, Turkey, and Stuffing if we are given enough notice and if we have the turkey available.
Q. CAN YOU PUT WORDING ON TOP?
A. Yes. We can put limited wording on to the top pie. For example, "George and Lisa. 28-05-10"
Q. WHEN ARE THE PIES BAKED?
A. We bake the pies the day before we send them out to allow them to completely cool before we pack them up.
Q. HOW LONG WILL THE PIES KEEP?
A. The pies will keep for at least four days when kept in a refrigerator at 5 degrees C or less. The pastry will keep best when the pies are left in the sealed bag that we send them in as this helps prevent the pastry absorbing moisture and going soft.
Once opened, wrapping tightly in foil will preserve the pies best.
Q. WILL THE PIES FREEZE?
A. Yes the pies will freeze ok. This is best done in the original sealed bags, and in this instance the pies should be defrosted while still in the bag. Once opened the pies can also be frozen and this should be done with the pies wrapped in foil, and them they should be defrosted while still wrapped in foil.
Q. HOW MUCH NOTICE DO YOU NEED?
A. We need at least two weeks notice, preferably longer. We only have a limited number of tins so orders are taken on a first come, first serve basis.
Q. HOW IS MY ORDER PACKAGED IF DELIVERED BY EXPRESS POST?
A. Your pies will be freshly prepared, wrapped in silicone paper, lightly vacuum-packed and placed into specially insulated cartons. These contain state-of-the-art ice gel packs, which keep your order chilled for up to two days.
Q. DO YOU DELIVER ON A SATURDAY?
A. No. The cost of a Saturday delivery is prohibitive.
Q. WHAT DAYS DO YOU DELIVER ON?
A. We use an express next day delivery. The delivery days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. (If you need a pie delivering on a Tuesday, we will have to bake the pie on the Saturday before, so this reduces the life of the pie.) The delivery can be any time between 8am and 5.30pm. We would prefer someone to sign for the delivery, if no one will be available we need specific instructions of where to leave the delivery. i.e. "leave in shed round back" or "Leave at house No. 23" Deliveries can be made to hotels and other venues, but you must ensure that on delivery the pies will be taken out of the insulated box and put into a refrigerator (but left in the sealed bag).
Q. CAN I SPECIFY A DELIVERY DATE IN ADVANCE AND IF SO HOW?
A. Yes you can specify a delivery date in advance by making a note of this in the comments box which you will find during the checkout process. Please note the delivery days. (See above)
Q. DO YOU DELIVER NATIONWIDE?
A. Yes. Using TNT we deliver to most of the mainland, excluding the Scottish Highlands and other remote areas. If in doubt about your own location please check with us.
Q. DO I NEED TO BE IN TO ACCEPT MY ORDER?
A. Ideally we would like everyone to sign for their order on delivery but we realise that this is not always possible. It is possible to have your delivery left in a secure place or with a neighbour. To do this you must give specific instructions and you can do this by inserting your instructions in the comments box which you will see during the checkout process.
Q. WHAT DO I DO NOW IF I WANT TO ORDER?
A. Due to the importance of wedding occasions, we want to make sure we have all your information correct and have chance to sort out any issues, therefore we only take orders over the telephone. We require full payment with the order and this can be taken over the phone on our shop terminal. Please call us on 0113 2645448 or 0113 2930516.
